The El Ron Prohibido 12 Solera Blended Mexican Rum comes from the Spanish and means translated "The forbidden rum". That's because around the year 1700 the Chinguirito Rum (= distillate from cultivated sugar cane from Mexico, which was shipped to Spain and stored in sherry barrels) became very popular and of course the traditional rum producers did not like it. Without further ado, the royal house banned the Chinguirito.
This rum was produced according to the Solera process and aged for 12 years in oak barrels.
Tasting notes:
Colour: brown.
Nose: fine astringency, sweetish, wood, vanilla, notes of coffee, chocolate and raisins.
Taste: Strong, sweet, fruity, ripe, raisins, sultanas, notes of plums and dried fruit, hints of nut and wood.
Finish: Long lasting.
eigener, eher seltener Rumgeschmack: gut, aber eben anders. Etwas herber, weniger rosinig- süss.

Bin kein Rum Profi, aber der Rum hat allen Gästen sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Flasche gefällt dazu sehr und ist etwas fürs Auge. Für meine Gäste sollte dieser Rum vorrätig im Regal stehen..

Musste ich als Mexico- und Rumfan einfach probieren und ich muss sagen, ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Absolut lecker pur zu trinken, Rosine kommt etwas durch, nicht zu scharf im Abgang. Hebt sich deutlich von anderen Rumsorten ab, man kann ihn vergleichen mit dem Elixir de Cuba, allerdings bei weitem nicht so süß. Absolut zu empfehlen.
