Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of NIKKA Whisky, wanted to expand the diversity of whisky varieties and was looking for a second location for another distillery in 1967. In 1969, the Miyagikyo distillery was established. Located in the northern part of Honshu, it is a beautiful misty gorge surrounded by mountains and situated at a junction of two clean rivers. The stills at this distillery have a domed neck and a rising lyne arm. They are heated by indirect steam and at low temperature, which allows a slow distillation.
Nikka MIYAGIKYO Peated Single Malt Whisky is part of the new NIKKA Discovery Series. This series produces limited editions to pass the time until the company's 90th anniversary in 2024.
This Nikka whisky is a single malt whisky with an elegant, fresh and fruity character. Particularly noteworthy is the peat note that is reflected in the taste.
This whisky is bottled without cold filtration.
