The provinces in present-day Rome also profited from the large-scale wine trade and the systematic cultivation of wine. In general, Italy can be divided into a northern alpine and southern Mediterranean part. Quality wines are grown on slopes in almost every region. The flat regions are reserved for the cultivation of olives, grain or vegetables. The designation DOC is a controlled designation of origin of Italian wines. DOCG is the highest quality level and indicates the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin. On delicando you find Italian quality wines from Abruzzo, Apulia, Lombardy, Marsala, Piedmont, South Tyrol-Trentino, Tuscany and Veneto.

Lombardy

The very extensive wine growing region in the north of Italy, covering some 27,000 hectares, stretches from the Swiss mountains down to Lake Garda and the city of Parma. The steep vineyards, typical for northern Italy, offer an impressive backdrop. In the middle of Lombardy is also the pulsating metropolis of Milan. The regions could hardly be more different. Cool winters and hot summer days combined with the microclimate of the numerous lakes produce particularly full-bodied and distinctive wines. The soils are rather barren, well drained, airy and equipped with the ability to form water reservoirs. The vines thrive particularly well on the southern and western shores of Lake Garda and along the valley of the River Adda. From light and simple to spicy rosé, white and red wines, Lombardy has everything to offer. The highest category of wines are DOCG wines, which guarantee a controlled and guaranteed origin. IGT wines can be compared with country wines. DOC wines require a controlled designation of origin.

Piedmont

Piedmont is located in the extreme north-west of Italy. In this region, mainly quality wines of the DOC and DOCG classes are produced. The hotspot of Piedmont is Langhe. Here the typical, rather dry Italian red wines Barolo and Barbaresco are produced. The white truffle, which is coveted by gourmets, is also increasingly found here. These two components make a perfect culinary match. Well-known DOCG-vines such as Asti, Brachetto d'Acqui, Dolcetto di Dogliani and many other DOC-vines are cultivated in Piedmont. One of the world's most famous companies Gaja is also located there. On delicando you will find many wines of the company and many more.

Tuscany

Tuscany, centrally located in Italy and on the Ligurian Sea, is world-famous as the wine growing region. The idyllic landscape is characterized by picturesque, gentle vineyards, small Italian villages and roads that wind playfully through the terrain. Most of the wine growing areas are situated on mountain slopes to the south, with the popular olive plantations in between. Frequently cultivated red wine varieties of Tuscany are for example Brunello, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colorino (Abrusco), Malvasia Nera, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah. Among the white grape varieties, Chardonnay, Greco, Malvasia Bianco, Moscato Bianco, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon and the Traminer play an important role. Almost half of the wines produced are quality wines. So-called "Super-Tuscans" are known for exceeding even the highest quality wines without DOC guidelines. Examples are Galestro, Ornellaia and also Sassicaia.

Veneto

The north-eastern Veneto region borders on Austria and the other Italian wine regions of Lombardy, Trentino, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia-Romagna. More than 150 kilometers of Adriatic coast belong to the region and influence the climate and viticulture significantly. The particularly calcareous, stony soil allows wines like Bardolino, Valpolicella and Prosecco to thrive magnificently. In Veneto mainly high-quality DOC and DOCG wines are produced. Well-known representatives of various red wines are for example Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Manzoni, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese. Among the white wines, Chardonnay, Bianchetta, Malvasia, Muscat Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blac and Tebbiano Toscano are numerous. Order a bottle of Italian joie de vivre to take home.
