Trinidad and Tobago is a Caribbean country that consists of 2 islands and is located near Venezuela. Already in 1942, the region was discovered by Christopher Columbus, of which the islanders were not very enthusiastic and successfully chased away the potential conquerors. It was not until a hundred years later that European settlement succeeded and the island became British property. Since 1962 Tobago has been an independent state, which has largely stopped rum production. Trinidad, on the other hand, holds on to this old tradition. Rum from Martinique
In 1502, the navigator Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Martinique in the course of his now fourth voyage. The island belongs to the Lesser Antilles and impresses with picturesque beautiful and contrasting landscapes. But Martinique also has a lot to offer in terms of rum. From the year 1700, the cultivation of sugar cane increased continuously, which is why the sugar molasses was even smuggled to Europe. The French overseas department scores with a special kind of rum production. Experienced customers recognize this at first glance, because the end product is called "rhum" to make the difference immediately apparent. As a rule, sugar cane molasses is used as the basic ingredient - in this case, the "rhum" is produced directly from freshly pressed sugar cane juice. Characteristic of the rum from Martinique is without the usual sweetness of molasses rum, the slight fruitiness.
