One famous surname, five generations. Glenfarclas Distillery is a family business in the truest sense of the word.
The whiskey distillery is located in Ballindalloch, Scotland, and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865.
The Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength is a bottling at cask strength.
The whiskey has an original cask strength of 63.5% by volume, here the alcohol content is reduced by the 'Angel's Share' after 8 to 10 years to 60% by volume.
The storage takes place in former bourbon and sherry casks.
The name of the single malt "105" refers to its alcohol content in British proof.

Ich bin eigentlich kein Whisky-Liebhaber, habe den Glenfarclas vor Jahren gakauft, weil ich gern Kaffee oder Marmalade damit 'aufbessere' (bei Marmalade braucht's Cask Strength, um sich ohne Mischen im ganzen Glas zu verteilen) - aber fallweise trinke ich gern mal auch ein Gläschen...

Eine Sherry Bombe in Faßstärke zu einem super P/L Verhältnis. Mit seinen 60% am besten mit etwas Wasser auf Trinkstärke absenken. Dadurch entfaltet er sein volles Aroma. Durch die verdünnung hat man dazu noch mehr von der Flasche ;)

Glenfarclas ist dafür bekannt, seine Single Malts nicht zu färben, was bei diesem, in Fassstärke abgefüllten Whisky durch die Sherryfässer zu einem hervorragenden, dunklen Farbbild führt. Der Malt eröffnet dem Feinschmecker die Wahl zwischen einem sehr intensiven oder einem mit Wasser verdünnten, sanften Erlebnis und ist in der 1 Liter Abfüllung besonders günstig. Im Geschmack Aromen von Sherry, weniger süß, dunkle Früchte, zarter Hauch von Rum und leichter Anklang von Zitrusfrüchten. Trockener, mittellanger Abgang.
Dem Genießer sowie dem Einsteiger ans Herz gelegt, allerdings empfehle ich ein wenig Experimentierfreudigkeit mitzubringen, um die für sich perfekte Mischung von Wasser und Malt herauszufinden.
