Wine from Toscana
Centrally located in Italy and on the Ligurian Sea, Toscana is world-famous as a wine-growing region.
The idyllic landscape is characterized by charming vineyards and small Italian villages which are winding through small streets.
The majority of the wine-growing areas are situated on mountain slopes on the south side, with olive plantations in between.
Frequently cultivated red wine varieties of Tuscany are Brunello, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colorino (Abrusco), Malvasia Nera, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah.
Among the white grape varieties, Chardonnay, Greco, Malvasia Bianco, Moscato Bianco, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon and Traminer play an important role.
Almost half of the wines produced are quality wines.
So-called "Super Tuscans" from Tuscany are known for surpassing even the highest quality wines (without observing DOC guidelines).
Examples are Galestro, Ornellaia and Sassicaia.
