The Solera Blending
In Solera Blended Rum, older and younger distillates are blended together, not just once but several times over many years and steps. Historically, the Solera system comes from Spain, where it was originally used for the production of sherry. The word "solera" means "base" in German, referring to the lowest barrels of a pyramid storage typical of the system. The process is applied from the background of providing consistent quality over a long period of time. Only the age indication could cause confusion, because with Solera Blended Rum, unlike with whiskey, it is usual that the oldest component is indicated, which is often present in only a small proportion. So here it is important to note that the Solera Blended Rum is usually much younger and less multi-faceted than an old rum matured alone. Nevertheless, a rum can be produced by blending, which convinces an expert in the breadth and depth of the flavor nuances.
